Derby fever: Eastbank Stadium close to sell-out for tonight’s top-of-table clash

Riverton United have sold more than 31,000 of 32,000 tickets for the evening derby against Port Alden FC, with only a handful of away seats left.

In the video, fans queue around the corner of the ticket office at Eastbank Stadium, scarves around their necks, hoping to grab one of the last seats for tonight’s derby between Riverton United and Port Alden FC. By early afternoon, the club had sold more than 31,400 of the stadium’s 32,000 tickets.

Only a few hundred seats remain, most of them in the away section, where Port Alden supporters have until 6 p.m. to collect their allocation before it goes on general sale.

A derby with points that matter

The match has rarely been this important. The two rivals sit first and second in the league, separated by a single point, and the winner will lead the table going into the international break.

Riverton United have won their last five home games, while Port Alden FC have the best defense in the league, conceding just four goals in nine matches.

We haven’t seen demand like this since the cup final years. Season ticket holders are bringing friends, and families are buying four or five seats at a time.

For many fans, it is about more than the table. “My grandfather took me to my first derby here thirty years ago,” said Jonas Feld, who queued for an hour with his two children. “Now it’s their turn. I wasn’t going home without tickets.”

Getting to the stadium

Police will deploy around 400 officers and expect heavy traffic around the east bank from 6 p.m. Away fans will travel on special trains from Port Alden and be escorted from the station to the stadium.

Extra trams will run on the riverside line until midnight, and the club advises fans to arrive early, as gates open at 7 p.m. and security checks may take longer than usual.

Kickoff is at 8:45 p.m. News. will carry live updates throughout the evening.

Got two tickets behind the goal this morning. Hands still shaking.

Port Alden has the better defense, but nobody wins at Eastbank this season. 2-1 United.

Please run more than two extra trams. Last derby we walked home.
