Summer may be over, but Riverton’s outdoor season is going out with a bang. This weekend brings the biggest open-air concert of the year, a night market in the old town and several smaller events worth leaving the house for. Here are our five picks.
1. Riverside Lights concert
The highlight of the weekend is Saturday’s Riverside Lights concert on the meadow below the old bridge. Indie rock band The Paper Harbors headlines, with three local acts opening from 6 p.m. Organizers expect around 15,000 people and promise a confetti finale. Tickets cost 18 euros; children under 12 go free.
We wanted one last big night outside before the weather turns.

2. Lantern night market
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the squares of the old town fill with food stalls, craft sellers and paper lanterns. The market runs from 5 p.m. to midnight. Come hungry and bring cash, as not all stalls take cards.
3. Jazz on the steps
The steps of the city library turn into a stage on Sunday afternoon for a free jazz session featuring students from the Riverton music academy. Bring a cushion; the stone gets cold.
4. Open studios in the harbor district
More than 40 artists open their studios to visitors on Saturday and Sunday. A free shuttle bus links the studios every 20 minutes, and many artists will be selling small works at reduced prices.
5. Family film night
The city park hosts a free outdoor screening of an animated adventure on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Deck chairs are limited, so blankets are recommended.
Getting around
City transport will run extra trams until 1 a.m. on Saturday, and the bridge road will be closed to cars from 4 p.m. Police advise concert-goers to travel by public transport or bike, as parking near the river will be very limited.
The weather service forecasts a dry weekend with evening temperatures around 14 degrees, so a warm layer is a good idea for the late hours.
