Storm turns inland
Forecasters say the center of the storm is moving inland toward Cedar Falls and will weaken overnight, but the red warning for the coast stays in place until 11 p.m. Emergency services have answered more than 400 calls since noon; no serious injuries have been reported.

Waves are now breaking over the seawall along the Port Alden promenade, and police have closed the waterfront road between the fish market and the old lighthouse. Water is ankle-deep in some side streets.
Ferries suspended
The harbor authority in Port Alden has suspended all ferry crossings until at least tomorrow morning. Passengers with tickets can rebook free of charge.

Red warning issued
The weather service has upgraded its warning for the Coastal Region to red, the highest level. Forecasters expect the strongest gusts between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with up to 80 millimeters of rain in places.
A powerful autumn storm is moving up the coast this afternoon, bringing gusts of more than 110 km/h, torrential rain and waves high enough to spill over the seawall in Port Alden. The national weather service has raised a red warning for the Coastal Region until late tonight and an orange warning for the Valley Region.
All ferry crossings from Port Alden are suspended, several coastal roads are closed and emergency crews are clearing fallen trees. Residents are urged to stay indoors and keep away from the waterfront. This page is updated as the storm moves north.
