Police seek driver who hit three parked cars in Elmbridge and drove off

No one was hurt in the late-evening crash on Mill Street, but officers say the driver left behind mirror fragments and paint traces that could identify the car.

Police in Elmbridge are searching for a driver who crashed into three parked cars on Mill Street on Sunday evening and left the scene without stopping. No one was injured, but the damage is estimated at more than 15,000 euros.

Residents heard a loud bang shortly after 9:30 p.m. When they came outside, they found a hatchback with its front end pushed in and a broken headlight, and two other cars with dented doors and scraped paint. The vehicle responsible was gone.

Clues at the scene

Officers taped off part of the street for about two hours while they collected evidence. According to a police spokesperson, investigators found pieces of a side mirror and traces of dark gray paint on the damaged cars, which they hope will help them identify the make and model.

We have good physical evidence and we are reviewing cameras along the route. We would much prefer the driver came forward on their own.

One resident told News. that she saw a dark car speed toward the university ring road moments after the crash. “It did not even slow down,” said Mirela, who lives on the second floor and asked that her surname not be used. “If someone had been crossing the street, this could have ended very differently.”

What the driver faces

Leaving the scene of an accident is an offense even when only property is damaged. A driver who fails to stop and report a collision can face a fine of up to 3,000 euros and a driving ban. Penalties are lower for those who report themselves within 24 hours.

Residents of Mill Street say speeding has been a problem since the road was resurfaced last year. The city council said it would consider speed bumps and a lower limit on the stretch near the student housing.

How to help

Police are asking anyone who was in the area between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., or who has dashboard camera footage, to contact the Elmbridge station or use the online tip form. Repair shops have also been asked to report any dark gray car brought in with damage to its right side.

Check the parking lot cameras at the corner shop, they point straight at that stretch.

My neighbor’s car was one of the three. The least the driver could do is leave a note.

Mill Street has been a racetrack since they repaved it. Speed bumps should have been there months ago.
